Stephen C. Smith has nearly 30 years of aviation industry experience in a wide range of areas, including airport planning, project and program management, strategic planning, environmental planning, and coordination with airport operators and stakeholders. He has conducted and managed aviation planning projects and environmental impact analyses for a variety of airport and air traffic assignments at airports in multiple regions, such as Southern California, Northern California, North Texas, Atlanta, Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago, and Washington, DC. Stephen specializes in assessing airfield and air traffic operations and applying his knowledge and experience to help resolve complex operational and environmental issues. He has served on expert panels associated with balancing airport capacity, aircraft noise, and land use compatibility. He has also served as project manager or technical lead on several planning assignments for on-call consulting services at US airports: Chicago O’Hare International Airport, Chicago Midway International Airport, Long Beach Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, San Diego International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, and Washington Dulles International Airport. Internationally, he has experience managing projects at Dublin Airport (Ireland), Christchurch International Airport (New Zealand), and Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (Italy). Stephen holds a private pilot certificate and a single-engine land with instrument rating certificate, and he is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) with the Project Management Institute.
